It can be ridden in a straight line and taken hard into any corner, and with the 190 rear tire, it's easy to hold on a long one. Frames are strong unlike the new models which will crack with excesive wheelies. The 98 was said to have had injection faults but I have personally never heard of one. Easy enough to service.

I just bought the bike and man am I impressed!! I was told before I bought it that it was very light and fast but I had no idea of the speed. When I got it out on to some back roads that's when the beast hidden inside came out! The bike rides like a dream and the handling is awesome. The bike rockets off in all the gears as if to ask for more throttle. I love it and a first time rider (After attending a ride and safety course) can handle the bike with no problems. Just remember the key is throttle control. I haven't done any mods as of yet but looking to put on a power commander in the winter months. Ride safe and ride hard everybody. Peace

It is comfortable for a sport bike. Not for the beginner rider! IT'S WAY TOO FAST! It handles awesome at high speeds as well, I recently had it up to 155mph and still managed to weave in and out of traffic with ease. There is no point in a bigger bike unless all you do is bring it to the strip.

I bought my Gixxer in 2002. This bike is wicked fast. Not a bike for the new rider. But if you know what you're doing on two wheels and enjoy riding fast and cutting corners, this is the bike for you. I'm a pretty big guy and this bike is about as comfortable as a sportbike can get. I rode 350 miles in one day and turned around and did the ride back the next day without missing a beat.

This bike is fast! All I did was put on a full exhaust and a Power Commander. I can stay with any R1 in a strait line. But the fun part is the corners. Even in NY, where all the roads are bumpy, this bike loves to turn. It's not for the faint hearted though. You have to really push this bike to get the best out of it. I like to blast out of a corner with a lot of throttle, past 10K RPM, and, sometimes shift in the turn. When I hit my apex, I gun it. The front tire-almost off the ground-is bouncing off of every little bump, the handlebars twitch a little and the bike slides to the edge of the turn. It can be scary if your not used to it, but when you fly by a "faster bike", it's all worth it. I love my GIXXER. When I get the 1000 next year, this one's going on the track. I also had a '99 CBR 900. Great bike, but nowhere near as much fun to ride HARD.
