I love the ability to go on long rides, without the sportbike aches, and still be able to ride aggressively enough to keep up with most full sport bikes in the twisties. This bike has never missed a beat. 99% of the time, If anyone encounters problems with this bike, it's due to poor maintenance or installation of low quality parts. I've been riding/racing motorcycles for 21 years and recommend this bike highly to all types of riders, beginner to advanced.

I have to put this into perspective for any readers. I'm 48 years old and have owned 11 bikes over the last 30 years. I have to put this into perspective for any readers. I'm 48 years old and have owned 11 bikes over the last 30 years. I'm not a Ben Bostram wannabe, but neither am I ready for a Goldwing Barcolounger. I like to ride aggressively, and spend most of my time on sport tours of between 50 and 200 miles. I want performance, dependability, and I want to get off after a long ride without a sore back. I've had this bike exactly one year this month and have 6500 miles on the clock. Bottom Line: this is a keeper. Not a single problem to date. The only mods are a Lockhart smoke-tinted windscreen, Pro-Grip Gel grips, and Gen-Mar risers, which raise the clip-ons 3/4-inch. There are faster bikes, but none better for my needs.

I have a 1999 YZF600R, and it is the nicest bike I've ever owned. It is great to commute to work on (I have a 30 mile round trip), I never have a sore butt or sore wrists like you get on most sports bikes. It is good on gas, fast, comfortable on long trips, great on back roads, very very good on back-roads! Get good tires and most bikes will have to go well to keep up with you! It is good on parts, servicing prices aren't too bad really. I've only had to replace the brake pads on mine so far, apart from that I've left it standard and love it. It's a really fun bike with a great price, you don't need to spend $10,000 to have a beautiful bike that is fast and functional!!!!<br /> Buy one and enjoy, like I did! Way to go Yamaha, I'll try your YZF-R6 next, if it's better than this, its gotta be good!

The bike blew up on me. It was caused by a faulty fuel line from the tank to the ignition. The bike caught fire and then blew up. Yamaha is paying for the bike and for my hospital costs. I don't think I will be buying another one of their bikes.... read more
