This bike is fun in its stock form but is a great / awesome wheelie bike after you uncork the in-let & exhaust, re-jet, and add three more teeth to the rear gear. Best dual purpose bike on the planet in my opinion....

This bike is what all the other motorcycles wish they could be. Versatile beyond belief. I've had 21 bikes before I got my 2002 xr650L. This one is more fun than all of them put together. Great on road, decent off road. What more could you ask for?...

R4, K&N filter and replaced the battery with a nickel hybrid. I also removed the emissions junk (this isn't California). The sidestand interlock makes it hard to oil the chain will running and in gear (remove it). If anyone has a good idea for a rear fender rack please let me know.

I've owned the bike for approx. 8 months now. I have only one complaint.. the bike is just way too tall. I wish that Honda would make the height adjustable. I put almost 1500 miles on it this past summer and enjoyed every mile. I currently have the bike in the shop being lowered down 2", so I can reach the ground more easily. (The company that is taking care of the adjustments is named Tech-Care, they are located in Walled Lake MI) You can find them at www.tech-care.com. I am really impressed by the way they took care of me. (PROFESSIONALISM, all the way.)They are also changing the counter shaft sprocket by one tooth so I can achieve better highway speeds. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions regarding the changes I've made. I'd be happy to discuss them with you. Most of my riding is done "on the road" with my brother who owns a Harley-Davidson Sportster. I wish that I could explain the excitement I feel when I "nail" the throttle and walk away from him (on a dual-sport???) I get approx. 45-50 mpg in the city. The longest trip that I've taken was 180 miles from Detroit to East Tawas. I admit it, my butt did get a litte numb, but, I would do it again in a heartbeat.Would love to hear from you regarding your riding experiences as well as any ideas you may have regarding after market goodies that you have added to your XR650L. Any comments on the Corbin seat for the XR650L would be appreciated. Please ride safely,so we don't meet "by accident"

I have taken it off-roading and even though it is a little heavy it is a good bike for trail riding. Most of my miles were on short trips (400 miles or less). You can cruise at 70 mph all day; the road conditions mean nothing. Highway, dirt roads, or secondary roads this bike can handle it. The only bad thing I can say about this bike is about its seat. It is a butt buster. You do have to make a lot of stops or your butt will die a horrible death. Currently I own 3 motorcycles, a zrx-1100, a Honda shadow ace tourer, and my xr650l. It seems that you have more freedom on the xr650l as you are not restricted to any particular road, and road conditions mean nothing. It is a very good bike.

This is the only dual sport for my money. The bike is also great fun on one wheel. One final thought if you cant run with the BIG DOGGS STAY ON THE BUS YEAH......

Purchased an XR650L 1994 model with 5240 miles on it. Sold the bike two years later in April 2000 with approximately 22,500 miles on it. Canada, Alaska, Arctic Circle in 1998 and eastern states and south Alabama in 1999. Pretty much a bullet proof bike but as in other less popular models sorely lacking in aftermarket niceties. However!!!! Corbin makes a leather seat, Slipstream an easily converted windshield, Hohar FOAM GRIPS, owner fabricated throttle grip, luggage rack, highway pegs and a MUST Clark 4.7 gallon tank. The bike eats expensive tires and does ok with normal tread. The overdriven 5th gear is highway 75-85 mph salvation. The bike shines in the dirt and gravel and asphalt under weeklong rain conditions. The XR should be given an off the road shut the motor off in 111 degree heat index 30 mile long 2 hour traffic jams on I-40 construction routes however. Comparing with 650 Beemers, KLR 650's, GS Beemers, take the XR.

I have had the bike since April and have put 4000 miles on it. At first, I was not happy with the amount of vibration felt in the handlebars or the seat. It kept you limited to shorter rides due to tingling hands and a numb ass. Once I went through the first set of tires, I replaced them with a less aggressive tire and put foam handgrips on. The vibration gets absorbed in the grips, not your hands. What a difference. I can now go 3 or 4 hours at a time without the discomfort. This bike has a lot of power and is a blast to ride. The bike is a little heavy and bulky for tight trails, but excels on fire roads. To me, it is the best bike in its class.

I am the happy owner of a 94XR 650L. It has basically the same specs as the 2000 model, and I am here to tell you that this is one serious machine. It handles city traffic with Much Power Available when you need it as well as in the woods where the Dirt Bike Profile really shines. But be careful getting on it cause it's a Dreadnought Coming out of the Hole, and with all the Power In this beast you better know what your doin' when you twist this throttle. This is one great Machine in my opinion, and I've gotten thumbs ups from Harley Guys as well as Rocket Racers, they seem to show respect for this bad boy, and for good reason. If your on a budget like me and cant afford a Harley for the road and a CR for the Dirt this is the answer. Also Honda four strokes are nearly indestructible, and this I tell ya from racing XRs in Eastern Enduro Circuits all my life, they just keep on churnin out the torque. I plan on doing the Appalachian Trail on my 650next summer. I cant wait to tame that trail, this Bike can do, no prob, and the best part is Its a legally licensed motor vehicle and can be ridden on a lot of those endless mountain dirt roads that are off limits to 4 wheelers.
