This is my first bike. I rode my friends 80 dirtbikes way back when but this is nothing like that. This is my first bike. I rode my friends 80 dirtbikes way back when but this is nothing like that. I bought a used 2001 500R and I have to admit I dropped it going 1 mile an hour in some u-turn I conjured up while grabbing the front brake on my first ride...cracked the fairing (JB Weld is the ultimate tool) I then read up on all the newbie pages and don't plan on doing anything like that ever again...live and learn... So anyway, since then the bike has been a dream....it goes where I want it to with perfect precision...I am now cornering at extreme leans and feel so confident....I even rode it through this mean thunderstorm on a two lane byway....after that, the dry road seems so pleasant and friendly. This bike handled the rain perfectly!!!... sigh, what I've been missing for too long... So anyway, this bike is perfect for me...plenty of power (I weigh 190)...feet firmly on the ground....comfortable position...and I feel like a mustang pilot on the bike...my wife has been singing "Highway to the danger zone" over and over again...haha ride on!!

O.K, that's the story. I bought my ex 500 2001 after i have been riding 9 years and had had multiple bikes. When i became a student i needed something nice, reliable, cheap, yes, and cool for the girls. I already put 12,000 miles on it because of my work, and it runs like a dream (cheap and reliable. This Kawasaki Ninja is a great bike, it handles excellent and has great power for only a 500 twin. The dual exhaust makes a sweet sound and provides the extra horse. I have a UK spec model, sold here as GPZ500S, very neat in black/dark blue and cleans up well thanks to belly pan etc. Only 2 problems i) the grab handle, your passenger can't hold it as the seat is too short ii) over six foot and your into the wind as the sports fairing sends it straight into your head. Handles reasonably especially when the tyres are warm, brakes feel spongy but stop well, maybe metal lines would help. Took it to northern Spain, one up, went round the mountain roads like a dream. The bungee hooks were well used. Summary, cheap to buy, run and insure. Can stay at 80+ all day, little vibration which you would expect from a twin, needs a hugger if you want to put anything under the seat. Little residual value. Keep Upright.
