The all-around performance I like about the Dana White glide the authentic Harley look The true Harley look The fact that Harley stuck with the actual Harley instead of all the fancy stuff and I like how comfortable they are and the maneuverability that you have the styling the fact that it would be very comfortable for long distance rides I wish Harley would bring back the Dana White glide. The Dana White light and the V-Twin 88 was what saved. Harley years ago and the fact that Harley is not a stunt bike. It is a cruising bike and is a luxury it is not built to do anything but cruise comfortably and the fact that it is an American icon and American machine and in some ways I think Harley is getting taken away from the American view of the Harley, the American part of being Harley

After 4 weeks of riding, the engine just suddenly stopped while I was cruising at 45 mph, like I had pressed the engine's off switch. I rolled to the side, turned off and on the ignition again and it started like normal. It seems this is pretty normal for these bikes according to many Harley members on a forum. Even HD mechanics wasn't sure what it was since it's difficult to replicate the problem since it is happening rare and very random. Some said it could happen 3 times a month, others 1 time per year. The second problem with the bike is the riding position = the air filter and engine is so big and wide that your legs get spread out way too much, making it hard to reach break pedal. Another problem with this is wind during higher speeds: At 70 to 80 mph the wind will hit your spread out legs so hard that it feels you will lose grip on the foot-pegs. So you sort of hold on to the bike as you feel the wind will pull you off. Another issue with the bike is the dreaded fork "clunk" = every time you hit a small bump in the road or breaks a bit hard on your forward breaks your forks will give this metallic "clunk" sound. This is apparently something that is normal with the bikes and HD mechanics says it's just the way it's constructed. Also on forums many have various meanings why this sound occurs. All from lose gas tank, not enough oil in the forks, or some bolts not screwed tight enough. But none seems to be able to fix this. Also having 70 hp, the bike's torque and acceleration is very bad. Maybe it's due to it's heavy weight of 661 lbs or just old engine technology. My 1400 Intruder with it's 60 hp would smoke this heavy hog any day. Coming back to my Intruder after many weeks of riding the Harley I came to a conclusion = The Harley felt like something from world war 2. Noisy, shaky and unreliable with bad performance. The Intruder outperforms the Harley in every department. It even looks slicker and cooler. I am selling my Harley and will keep the best cruiser bike I ever ridden

If you want comfort, you should have been smart enough to buy a Softail in the first place. Anyway, I think the Sporster is an awesome bike and there is a reason it has been around for 50 frickin years. I love mine and love riding in general. It is the most quality and reliable motorcycle I have ever owned.

I bought this carbureted Superglide on ebay almost two years ago (immaculate, 8,300 miles, already fully accessorized). I previously had owned an 883 Sportster, after numerous UJM's (1970's-80's Universal Japanese Motorcycles) and then a 12 year hiatus from cycling. To anyone who wants a Harley and is considering the Sportster as a starting point, do yourself a favor and get a Superglide. It's a lot more bike for just a little more money. The bike has just turned 30,000 miles, with no problems whatever. I have done only the prescribed maintenance plus replacing tires and brake pads, and without Harley's high dealer shop rates. It's a solid, low tech machine. With basic tools you can do your own routine maintenance. With proper care, my Superglide should go a long ways yet. For the kind of riding I do, this bike is ideal. I typically ride one-up 30 or so miles daily, with a 80-100 mile ride once a week and some summer tours of 2,000+ miles. The bike handles the tours nicely (it's not been that long since a 650cc bike was regarded as a big road machine!) and is a dream for evening cruising close to home. However, I would not recommend it without highway pegs or forward controls, as the stock mid-controls are somewhat confining. Also, it is not a suitable machine for two-up touring. Power is ample, but the seating isn't spacious enough for two people to go any real distance in comfort. Every now and then I get the itch to trade for a larger Harley or a metric, but keep coming back to my Superglide. The price difference between this bike and an Electraglide or Road King just isn't justifiable for the kind of riding I do. As for metrics, I've recently tried the Yamaha Road Star and Stratoliner, and the Kawasaki Nomad. They are excellent bikes, and Harley prices are indefensible when compared to them. But they just don't give the almost indescribable feel that the Harley look/sound/pulse does. The Japanese consistently build bikes that are just a little too smooth and refined. If they ever figure this out and correct it, Harley will be in trouble! So I will stick with my Superglide a while longer, and let you know how things look at 50,000!
