This is the Classic model. Excellent starter bike for a newbie my size. Still a comfortable ride and looks great. Out of the pocket performance was comparable a buddy's Katana 600. Doesn't really like anything above 90mph, but it will do it with room to spare. Hey, it's a cruiser. The only real thing that...

Doesn't really like anything above 90mph, but it will do it with room to spare. Hey, it's a cruiser. The only real thing that bothers me is the chain-drive. It makes it impossible to keep the rear-wheel clean, wire-spokes are a pain to clean. Handles VERY nice through the turns, and is overall very maneuverable. I definitely recommend this bike.

don't get me wrong this is a wonderful bike. I love the looks and the performance is above what I expected. It is a little uncomfortable on longer trips but I am a big guy. I'm hoping an aftermarket seat will help alleviate my pains. I'm a little disappointed in the accessory department, it seems they have everything for the classic and drifter but forget about the VN800A. I still love riding the bike and am still searching for ways to make it a little more comfortable and powerful to make up for its smaller displacement versus my larger displacement. The engine and transmission work well together but a sixth gear would help. Shifting is a little noisy but smooth. When I bought the bike it was a 02 left over so I got a great price and a few showroom scratches. The only complaint I've had is that this bike does not like cooler temperatures. Anything below 45 or 50 degrees and it has a tendency to pop and backfire some. Overall it is a great bike for the price and gives you bragging rights over the hardcore bikers when they mistake it for a H-D and you tell them the price. Remember keep it shiny side up.

I'm 56 and it has been about 40 yrs. since I drove a motorcycle. Wow, have things changed. I did my home work and bought the Vulcan 800A right off the floor (2003 model). I'm 56 and it has been about 40 yrs. since I drove a motorcycle. Wow, have things changed. I did my home work and bought the Vulcan 800A right off the floor (2003 model). After some dealing, I got it for $5499, new. I really thought I wanted the Susuki 1400 Intruder but am now glad I stayed with my bike. In 1st, 2nd, the bike almost flew out from under me. This bike unloaded will keep up with the big boys. I love it. I showed it to some of my work friends and they just stand there looking with mouth open. Just the right amount of chrome against the black. The bike rides good but I haven't found the rear shock adjustment (probably under seat). Handles great and has great acceleration in all gears. My only complaint is not as many accessories offered for the 800A as the Classic or Drifter. The chain is no problem and easy to adjust. I give it a 3 to 4 on accessories but a 5 on great bike for the money. Be careful. BudC
