I WAS LOOKING AT A KLX650 AND A XR65OL. I AM SO GLAD THE DEALER TALKED ME INTO A DRZ 400S. CHANGED THE TIRES OUT TO KNOBBIES AND PULLED THE AIRBOX PLUG FOR MORE AIR FLOW,(HIGH ALTITUDE). THIS BIKE IS GREAT FOR DIRT! LIGHT AND EASY TO HANDLE TURNING JUMPING AND TRAIL RIDING. CAN EASLY GO 100 MILE RIDES OFF ROA... read more

I just bought the DR-Z400s 2002 and have put about 30 miles on it and I think this one of the best 4 strokes ever made This bike is stout and yet mobile and I have had no problem getting the rear end loose like a 250 feels. I love this bike !!!... read more

Just picked one up last week, I have 160 miles on it and about 30 of them are off-road. The bike is still all stock so most of the off road riding is on hard packed 2 tracks and trail.. This is bike #4 in my garage and the one that will get the most use out of and have the most fun with.. Makes excellent off road power and good enough street power for local riding, it's certainly not a highway cruiser. Just waiting for those DOT approved knobbies...

I wanted a dual sport and the Kawasaki was just too heavy looking. I rode the BMW F650GS and it was sluggish and heavy and about 60% more expensive. The Suzuki is great. I am not sure why the previous reviewer thinks it is too high as it is the same height as every motocross bike in production -- 12 inches of travel and a 37" seat height. I did cut some foam from the seat to lower it, and I put on a clear plastic tank. Now it is just right. If you find it "slow" then change the rear sprocket to increase punch. I left mine as-is so I can cruise at 65 MPH on the highway.

I love my new DR-Z400S. It's real fast. I put a Yosh exhaust and it sounds great too. I would highly recomend this bike to someone who enjoys on and off road riding. The only features that I don't like are the seat height and the lack of a tach. The seat is perfect for off road but can be a little awkward on the street. Be ready to tip toe around. As for the tach, I like the feedback I get from it. I think it helps stay in that high RPM zone without hurting the engine. I would like to know when I approch the red line. Everything else it great!
