When I first bought the bike, I had never owned or even ridden another Harley. Since then, I have put in some time riding in all kinds of weather and added a few upgrades. I just want to say I still love this bike. With new pipes, the 88b comes to life pushing out more ponies and letting the engine rest a little at speeds of 70 mph or so. My best advice is to get a detachable windshield. It is like having two totally different bikes. I use mine all the time but once in a while I will take it off and I get that new bike feel all over again!!

I have a Sportster 03 anniversary edition and my 06 FXST and I love both of them for various reasons. The Softail with it's fat rear tire is surprizingly easy and enjoyable to ride. The stock seat is good for the rider but not the passenger. I rode mine from Tacoma Washington to Glacier National Park 745 miles one way in 10 hours, no complaints. I do not use a windshied or heated anything, but will look into that later. The bike is very solid and reliable, pleasing to look at and comfortable. The only thing I would change is the top gear 5TH seems to run lower than 4th. It is strange and since I do not have a tac I am not sure if it is my SE pipes giving me that sensation but regardless it does wear on you after awhile. I also love the carbureted model. Both my bikes are and I know how to adjust these now already extinct bikes. When done right they do not spit, cough, or stall and you can adjust the idle low so that they purr on Idle the way mine does. The elevation riding which I do a lot of does not affect my bikes once they are properly warmed up and for me that is part of the experience and I enjoy it. Good luck and happy riding, don't worry about the first Harley you get because you will no doubt change your mind after a little while of having it, and that is o.k. so long as you have one in the barn.

When I took the Dyna back to pick up the Sporty I, just for fun sat on my night train and it was love at first sitting. I came back three days later and traded my Sporty in on the same night train I had sat on. I have lowered it 2 inches in the rear. I also put vance and hines side shots on with an Arlen Ness big Sucker air cleaner and re-jetted. I also have put on Arlen Ness Alt. Rad II black Tear Drop micro mirrors. It is a totally different bike. I love it
