2006 Yamaha Dirt Bike reviews

We had bought a Chinese bike many years ago and learned it is much better to buy a used "Big 5" bike over a Chinese version. We bought this bike at six years old and it is a delight! If I had to do it again, I'd stick with the TTR50 over CRF50 because of the electric start (we also own a CRF250X and CRF250R so I'm not biased). It may not seem like much of a difference but it is...this is my third youth rider in the family. Show less

When I was a beginner rider, this bike was great. It handles nice on the track and in the mountains and it's great for off road. It has the get-up-and-go that any new/intermediate rider needs. It's a great bike. Show less

After waiting 30 years to ride again, I couldn't afford an expensive bike, so the wife let me buy this. It reminds me of the two strokes of the 70's, but easier to ride. It's both a hobby and fun ride. At 50, my mind would love a YZ250, but my body is in love with this bike. I have a young daughter to take care of, and this bike allows me all the fun of mods, riding all day and returning home safe. It's great weekend fun. Show less

This is my first 450 four-stroke by Yamaha and it has the power delivery that I need to do just about anything. My first bike was a 1996 Honda XR200R and it still works fine but when I get on the WR450 I felt the difference that the 450 made. The seat is a little uncomfortable but won't get you depressed because the rest of the bike is great. Show less

This is my first bike and it's awesome! I've had it for a year. I've tried riding other dirtbikes, but none of them are as comfortable. It may not be the fastest and most powerful out there, but it's still a great bike. Show less

I keep the two wheels on the ground. I just go slow on the one track trails. This bike has good enough torque to pull me up an incline. It never bogs down. It is a perfect bike for an older guy who just wants to look around the forest. Not race or jump. Show less

I got this bike instead of the CRF230/TTR230 and I'm glad I did. Although I'm kind of disappointed with Yamaha for how much the bike was restricted from the factory (to get the CA green sticker), and the fact that a brand new bike had a bogging problem, but a few easy and fairly inexpensive mods make this bike lift the front tire with throttle alone. It has more power than I'll ever really need, but the power is very controllable. I have a buddy who has a CRF450 who wants to switch to a CRF250 or WR250F after riding my bike. I'm sure the 230's are good bikes, but the physical size is too small for me. I'm sure the CRF250 is a good bike also, but I haven't heard for sure if the valve problems have been fixed. If you're thinking about this bike, get and do the mods to it, it's a great bike. Ride safe. Show less

I ride a CRF 450F, and I bought this bike for my wife. It is absolutely more fun to ride than mine (with a few mods). You don't have near the power or acceleration of the larger bikes, but on small track stuff, it's a blast. Look to BBR and GYTR to get the bike ready for larger riders (I'm 6ft 1 and 200 lbs). With the proper mods and a good rider, it can take the new Honda CRF 150R.... Show less

I am a macanic and I built this bike from ground up. I have had scary misfortunes with 2 strokes and so I went with this project. Started with a bike with a cracked frame (previous owner said it fell off the trailer a few times), a siezed motor, bent every thing, rear brake won't move and shot suspension! Not to mention, the previous owner had all the bolts stripped, not fitting right with 16mm and 1/2 inch sizes and badly painted with black spray paint! I had a friend with an old YZ 80 with ONLY a siezed motor who sold me the parts. I put a whole YZ 80 together around a TTR 125E motor and rebuilt the motor. Added sweet upgrades and it was finally done. I got disc brakes too! It handled great! It was heavy though, but not bad. If I knew Honda was coming with the 150, I would buy that. But I love my YZ 125 Electric start. Show less

I bought a TTR 50 the first month they came out and this is what I think. I have only had a few problems with the bike. During a pit bike race, I have all together broke my front fender, crushed my rear rim, broke side panels off, and burned the tire off the rim( from doing burn outs). This 50 hauled my 110 pound butt up a 95 foot hill with no tread on the back tire. Even though I am too big for this bike, it still will pull wheelies, do stopies and do dounuts on concrete. So all in all, this 50 hauls. Show less
