This is my first Harley having only owned Japanese bikes in the past, and I can honestly say I'm starting to "get" the Harley mystique at this point. The 883 Iron is a wonderful combination of looks and performance that really spoke to me. Power is generous for its displacement and is delivered fairly evenly across the power band; the engine genuinely seems to like running at high RPMs. Maneuverability is extremely good compared to some of its siblings in the Sportster range because of its better lean angles both right and left. Low-speed maneuverability is absolutely amazing. The only drawback I see at this point is the fact that some compromises were made in the area of ride comfort. The "slammed" appearance of the bike comes at the expense of a very short rear suspension, which can be a bit jarring on bumpy roads. However, much like a Jeep, a great Harley is frequently built, not bought. At this point I've replaced the stock mirrors with different ones from the Harley line - this give me, and my wide shoulders, much better rear visibility. If you don't like the ride comfort, longer rear shocks are available. If you don't think it has quite enough power, Harley even sells an engine upgrade to turn the 883 into a 1200. I see this first 1,000 miles as the beginning of a much longer journey, and will likely continue to tinker with this bike for years to come.

Ok so this is my first bike, so don't have much to compare it to, however, after listening to all my 'jap-loving' mates, I decided to ignore them and go with my desire rather than the flow. I headed down to the HD dealer and was bitten by the bug as soon as I entered the inner sanctum! After drooling over a couple of big twins, lows, fats etc, my eyes dropped onto this menacing little beast in the corner, which I was informed was the 'new-kid-on-the-block' 883 Iron. I was sold, ordered it, dreamt about it and waited...and waited...and waited. Eventually it arrived and was delivered to my door. I heard it before I saw it and have not stopped grinning since. This bike is fantastic as a first, last, second, first bike. The looks I get are constant, the comments too. It looks cool, rides beautifully and, with the V&H, sounds bloody awesome...

Ok so I'm not what you would call a veteran on bikes. In May of 09 I traded my first real bike a Kawasaki Vulcan 500, in on a new 2009 Sporter 883 Iron. I was a little leary but my husband assured me that I would be happy. I had done a demo ride on the Nightset 1200 and was fairly happy with that. But when it came time to buy I chose the 883. I really love it and would not trade it for anything. I just put 1200 miles on it and seriously can't wait to add another 1200. I did have some issues before the 1,000 mile check up. The engine seamed to have a bit of noise that I was not used to. The brakes were also squealing. I was told that both of these items were fine. My toosh gets a little sore after about 90 miles. But I try to stand up when ever I stop. No she is not fast but I'm not the type of person that has to get there now. I really just enjoy the journey. So I have to say that I'm really enjoying it on this ride. I more than likly will not be trading her in anytime soon. So from a womans perspective and a fairly new rider I LOVE THIS RIDE.

This is my first bike. I've been riding a couple of years and shopping around. I was going to buy the 1200 Nightster, but when I saw this, this was exactly it. don't think you'll be able to be a speed demon, this bike does not have a lot of power. It has decent low end speed and will get up to 60 with no problem, after that, it gets rough, but if you're not buying a sportbike, you weren't really thinking about the speed. I put a slipstreamer tombstone windshield on there, and it makes the ride a breeze around 75mph. You MUST get the suspension changed though. Even hitting a manhole cover at 35 mph can damn near crack your pelvis. I just stand up a bit when I see them coming. Also, the mid controls can get a bit cramped, I just put my legs up on the highway pegs or even back on the passenger pegs at times. However, I don't think you will ever get as many compliments on a bike as you will on this one. I love it, no plans of moving up anytime soon.
