I bought the Vulcan new in '92, and have put 20k on it. I added a windshield, leather bags, case guard, Cobra pipes, tank bib, and rear rack, and ride it for everything. It's a great all around bike, hiway, 2 lane roads, or twisties. Only problem in 8 years was a loose kickstand switch, otherwise, the bike has been bulletproof. I decided on the Vulcan because of mags (hate cleaning spokes!), shaft drive (ditto chain dirt), water cooled, and hydraulic valves. Seems like the right decision for me, it's been a good ride, not to mention a great look.
