We have had this bike for almost six years now and the only thing that has ever gone wrong with it was a dead battery. I am more of a two-stroke kind of guy, but this bike will run just like one, and almost as fast as a CR 500. It is the best four-stroke I have ever ridden and handles amazingly. We geared it down to run like a two-stroke and I think it helped it a lot in corners and on hills. I have never been not able to make it up a single hill with it. In the right hands it will go anywhere. KTM makes very high quality products and I am very happy and I would never buy any other new bike other than a KTM.

This bike does exactly what I wanted it to do. It has all the power I need and is usable from bottom to top.
I previously rode a KX250 but found arm pump to be a constant problem. With the 400 it is now history!

I previously rode a KX250 but found arm pump to be a constant problem. With the 400 it is now history!
I ride a lot of steep technical single track and had to constantly fan the clutch on my KX. The 400 will lug down to almost nothing and with a roll of the throttle pull right on up into the strong mid-range. This is the best backcountry exploring bike I have ever ridden. It can crawl like an old XR and scream like a racer.
The only shortcoming is deep sand. The 400 will struggle a bit but is still very rideable and still fast, just takes a bit more aggressiveness and clutch work.
All in all, a great bike for anyone from a casual trail rider to a pro racer. The only bike I would choose over the 400 for all around use is a 300 EXC.

This bike is everything you could want in any situation I have come across. The power is smooth but plentiful, the suspension is very forgiving. I have probably doubled in speed on the tight single track in the month that I have owned this bike....
