I just bought a 2000 DS80 for my 9 yr/old son, and the only thing that saved me the Saturday I bought it was the sun went down. LOL. Oh, no, "we can keep riding dad, its got lights!" he said at around 830pm.
Ok, the bike. <br /> It has a surprising amount of power for a little bike. Now, its kind of difficult to really review it, as my boy can't really give a good review of it yet, thou he likes it more than his 50, and says "is easier to steer, and has allot more power, wow, dad!" I think that translates into, He likes it better. LOL. To be honest the power it good and I can ride it and actually doesn't bottom it and I weigh about 190. It has 5 preload settings on the rear, and with it set on 4 (5 being the stiffest) it actually carries me well, no kidding. He is, and I am for that matter, able to Willie it without any problem, and it pulls pretty hard, even with me on it, from a stop. It will reach a top speed of about 41mph with me on it, and about 45mph with him on it. (I checked with another bike having a speedo). I actually found that it shifted pretty easily, thou he seems to have trouble getting it shift, but he's getting used to the differences. I can't really say much about the handling, because of how much weight I exert on it, but he seems to carve a pretty good line with it, and has said that it "steers better than his 50." The bike is a blast to ride, even for an adult on occasion, and for a youngster, you might never get him off it.
