Actually I like the riding position on the bike better than other bikes. I feel comfortable on the bike going at higher speeds. I haven't had the opportunity to take it in some twisties yet, but I can't wait till I do. This bike is way to sweet! If you can afford one, I would definitely tell you its so worth it.

Has good midrange but little top end. Somewhat more comfortable after FBF bar risers installed. Still no fun in Seattle traffic with forward lean over the bars and the stiff clutch. But on an open country road it is excellent. Thinking of upgrading to a 900SS or ST2.

I bought a blue '00 ST2 about 13 months ago and really love this Sport Tourer. Move over BMW. I took my Duc to Nova Scotia at 9.5K miles and had an incredible time on the famous Cabot Trail. At it's 600 mile checkup, I put the Duc Carbon Fiber Pipes and Performance chip in it. At 6K I dropped in a K&N (it needed more air) and had the back area of the restrictor plate cut out . Getting 80HP (but only 35 mpg) at rear wheel on a nice cool/dry day is possible. I did see an '02 ST4s (996) at my dealer and told him I would help him Web auction this limited (1 of 300) Grey rocket if someone doesn't swoop it off the showroom floor first for just under 15K. I see why no STANDARD ST4's (916) are reportedly going to be produced. Anyway the ST2 (which I bought for $11K) is a great bike and unlike the ST4s available in Blue. Get one. FYI, the '01 &'02 ST2 and '01 ST4 (not the '02 ST4s) prices were lowered BUT they remove the adjustable front and rear suspension...in otherwords, you might want to look for an '00 with low miles. BTW, the previous articles that were here 13 months ago help convince me to get this bike! Thanks! pacman@townisp.com

I've owned my ST4 just 6 weeks and have come to realize that I never really experienced true motorcycling before owning Ducati. The bike has been absolutely perfect...not a single quality related issue has surfaced and its pure joy to ride. The ST4 is extremely powerful and responsive, with terrific handling and control and a very smooth application of power to the road. Shifting is smooth and precise, although a bit of effort is involved. For such a substantial machine, it is extremely agile--it reminds you of its sport bike heritage from the moment you press the starter until you shut it down. In fact, this motorcycle inspires so much confidence, I need to watch myself. The motorcycle wants to run, and run fast! At 80 mph+ you feel like you are just getting started. Not only is the power there and accessible, but the bike is rock steady. I put a Corbin seat on--it's great. And I'm taking the saddlebag rails off and re-mounting the turn signals for a trimmer look. This motorcycle is better than anything I have ever ridden and I recommend it without reservation to anyone who want to really enjoy riding around town, in the country, or on twisties--the more the better!

The bike sounded great standard but now it turns heads!! I've ridden the mighty R1 and yes it is an awesome bike but it doesn't inspire passion like a Duke can. don't get me wrong, I have always loved Jap bikes but I saw the 900ss about 2 years ago and finally bought one without even test riding it. I wasn't disappointed. I have a yellow one with carbon pipes and along with the looks and comments I get just about everywhere, it goes hard enough, brakes well and inspires confidence at every corner. What a magical bike.

I purchased my 2001 ST2 in April and now have over 6,500 fun filled miles on the bike. The only problem has been the clutch slave cylinder leakage, but this has been fixed with a new slave cylinder replaced under warranty. I added the Ducati performance mufflers and chip to the bike (per Rider magazine, Feb/ 01) and the increased mid-range is as advertised. Rider dynoed it at +16% in the mid-range and it certainly feels like it. The bike will readily wheelie in 2nd gear and has lots of power everywhere in the rpm range. My wife and I just finished a 3,300 mile trip and the duc luggage, plus a duc 40 liter top box made this a very enjoyable journey. The bike does not seem to notice the extra weight, and passing a line of motorhomes is a cinch. We have 5 bikes but this is by far our favorite.

I bought a new, left-over 2000 M750 earlier this year and have put over 3,300 trouble-free miles on it so far. I use the bike for commuting and short-range touring. In short, I hate to arrive at my destinations, and I always look for ways to extend my rides. The bike handles and responds wonderfully in all respects. The one weak spot is the lean carburetion from the twin Mikuni's. This is easily remedied with a Stage 1 Dynojet - K&N jet and filter kit, which I installed after about 1,000 miles. It smoothens out the throttle response, especially at the low end, where the lean running is most problematic. I would recommend this bike to anyone who is passionate about motorcycling.
