I bought my Sportster 1200 Sport brand new and have loved every minute I've spent riding it. I do not, however, like the seat and handle bar vibrations above 70 mph. A 6-speed transmission would probably make this the best bike on the planet. But this flaw is small compared to the class and character of this motorcycle. I've never raced a Japanese bike and I never will. I bought a Harley planning to ride it like a Harley and that's what I do. I just WISH I could find more BLACK aftermarket exhaust, like a Thunderheader or something. Other than that, my only complaint is South Dakota's horribly short riding season. Oh well.

I've ridden my buddies Nighthawk several times and It feels like a much smaller bike then my Sport to me and I'm only 5'8"! Interesting..... One last thing, Harleys are different. Everything technical aside, the difference is this: Pull into anyplace where there are people. The mall, a bar, the supermarket, wherever, with any other bike and nobody notices. Now do the same with a Harley. People will turn to look and most often comment "cool bike".

I bought my 2000 FXD new off the show floor, only $12,500.00. It had the FXDT HD decal on the tank, so many people think its a striped down touring model. I lowered the backend 1 1/2 inches and didn't sacrifice the ride. I added a SE air breather kit and Cycle Shack slip on mufflers to get better flow but still look stock. I rode from Omaha to Sturgis(2002) in the rain and back again (1564 miles plus SD riding) and had no problems. I Cruised around 65-70 and got about 50 Mpg. I just had an Andrews .510 cam and S&S Timing gears installed, a Crane Hi-4 ingnition(set RPM Rev-limit to 6200), and a Mikuni HSR42 carberater and better plugs. WHAT A DREAM!! When I cruise at 70 MPH the tach barely hits 3,000 Rpm. The vibration (what little there was) in the handle bars is gone. In fact the engine is much smoother and more responsive. My first tank of gas showed 52Mpg combined city and highway(I'M NOT KIDDING). The twin Cam has really come to life and works a lot smarter not harder. I would recommend this mild hop up to anyone who wants to pull the front tire off the ground but not sacrifice gas mileage. Yep, She's a Keeper. BUT, the stock seat is not. its going this spring. PS, no bugs in my teeth, I have a Memphis Shade sport shield.

Had one a few months ago, until I traded it in for a Ducati. Back then, I thought it was a great bike, but compared to the Ducati.....it just doesn't measure up. Still, it's great for just cruising around and getting people to notice you, especially if you install screamin eagle pipes. don't get me wrong I loved this bike, and compared to other cruisers I've ridden like the Honda magna, and Suzuki intruder, this one is definitely a keeper. Especially because of the aftermarket parts available for it. First thing I would do is increase the hp to about 80 horsepower. Then, you'll have a pretty nice ride, plus, it's American!! And there is no greater sign of patriotism than ridng a Harley. Harley Davidsons are the "Cruiser" class, where as "Ducati" is the sportbike class. Can't really go wrong with either one.

I bought a used 1999 FXDS with 18000 miles on it. It has 23500 miles 8 months later and its still performing well. The paint is vivid black with plenty of chrome, a Mustang touring seat for the long haul and a Le Pera Bare Bones Solo for City Cruising. I love to cruise down winding city and country roads. It handles these roads with great ease. The T88 blasts this bike from a stand still to 70 mph in a few seconds with only stage one changes. The T88 humms at 65 MPH with with plenty of power to spare if needed.
