Being a relative newcomer into the biking world, I have been privileged enough to purchase a 2001 900ss and have had the Ducati Performance Pipes and chip included. The bike sounded great standard but now it turns heads!! I've ridden the mighty R1 and yes it is an awesome bike but it doesn't inspire passion like a Duke can. don't get me wrong, I have always loved Jap bikes but I saw the 900ss about 2 years ago and finally bought one without even test riding it. I wasn't disappointed. I have a yellow one with carbon pipes and along with the looks and comments I get just about everywhere, it goes hard enough, brakes well and inspires confidence at every corner. What a magical bike.

I am writing this because I read in another review that a R-6 blew the 900SS away. The R-6 is slightly faster, but no way able to blow the 900SS away. How do I know this? Because I own a 900SS and my riding partner owns a R-6. Anyways: Great street bike, high torque, aggressive riding... read more

Anyways: Great street bike, high torque, aggressive riding position, small gas tank, the mirrors vibrate, good wheelie bike.... and did I forget to mention its a Ducati. 'nough said.

I like this bike. It's my first real street bike and it handles well. As stated in another review, the ride is somewhat uncomfortable, but it's decent when you figure out a good riding position. The power is moderate, but plenty for me. The kickstand is like a straw with a spring on it, but I'm starting to trust it. The speedometer and tach are situated well, but the mirrors are not great. I recently took this bike on a trip to PA which was 4.5 hours each way. The bike did great. No problems with over-heating or anything. I was tired as hell, but it was a good ride. I shopped around quite a bit before I bought this bike. If you're looking for a good bike with a moderate price, this may be the bike for you. Lastly, I am always looking for people to ride with. If you're in the Baltimore area, drop me a line and we'll hit the streets.

My neighbor said it best,"My Porsche blows away my buddy's Ferrari, but it's not a Ferrari." I have owned a few bikes in 21 yrs of riding. This 900 was my first Ducati and my first bike over 600cc. I have to say that riding this bike 70 miles a day 5-6 days of the week that it is one of the best bikes on the road. I've ridden the 'Busa(rocket bus), the R1(fast but fat), even a guys 929, but I've always left them in the twisties. If your looking for braggin' rights you have to buy a Busa. It is THE fastest thing on the street. But if you want a Ferrari for twelve large....and it must be yellow. Warm it up with slip-ons, CPU, K&N and you are riding a beautiful machine with plenty of power for the street with a real sound. Not to mention no radiator, waterpump problems and 2/3 the maintanence cost of the 4-valve. My only complaint being a too firm suspension for crappy CA roads. Unfortunately a blue sedan has taken her from me, but you'll see me at the shop buying my next Ducati. Monster S4 anyone?

My First Bike was a '99 750 SS with the half fairing. I've since traded it in for a VFR. Pros: - Unique Italian style ALWAYS invited admiring comment. - Georgeous V-Twin Roar. With FBF Forza slip-ons it sounded better than my Bros 996 - Good low down grunt - Light, agile handling - Lots of high quality components (braided steel brake lines, Brembos etc.) Cons: - With only 64 HP its much less powerful than even a second tier Japanese 600. - No top-end (noticeable passing at highway speeds) - Places a lot of pressure on your wrists (ever hear of Ulna Nerve Compression?) - Ducati increased list price $1,000 over '99s with no significant improvement On the whole, Its a great bike for someone new to Sportbikes. But its list of $9,400 puts it close to the Japanese literbikes, which have twice the HP and better handling. Hard to justify.

I purchased a 2001 Ducati 750 Sport about 5 weeks ago. I love the looks, ride and flickable feel of the bike. It gets tons of attention wherever it goes. Not many people stop to look at Ninjas, CBR's and the rest but my Duc get's constant attention, complements and questions. It is the 750 Sport which only comes in matte black for 2001 with a half-fairing. It has plenty of power and torque for me and the brakes are OK. I love riding it and blasting past everything on two wheels. However, I have one problem that annoys me. When my bike hits 4000 RPM in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and sometimes 4th the engine misses. Have you experienced this? If you have, have you solved this problem yet? I am told that the bikes are tuned too lean from the factory to meet emissions standards. I am told that remapping the fuel injection computer may solve the problem. Any experiences, comments, or information about this or other Duc issues will be appreciated. Regards, Ian

I have bought over the years top of the range Japanese bikes which are efficient, fast, but not passionate.Having to pull up the side stand for the engine to run, having to wait 10-15 minutes before the engine is warm enough to ride normally, vibrating mirrors, all these things are forgivable when you come off the bike and take one look.

Ducati....I love it!! The pleasure of riding this bike is second to none. I've ridden R1's, GSXR's, there a blast; great adrenaline boosters and if I had the cash I'd own one of those also. But if you can only afford one bike, and you want something special, this is it. The only thing you may outgrow is the top end speed, but never, never the cornering ability or the beauty the bike holds. To own this bike is to own a small piece of Italian history. You also don't see them all over the tarmac on a Sunday ride as you do the R1 and Gixxer. It sounds great, looks cool, and just feels damn special. The 900SS is a great ride, 5 stars all around.
