Harley-Davidson FXSTD Softail Deuce reviews

The bike is big but not overly so. There is enough weight that it will soak up the road yet is fairly nimble enough to take mountain roads with confidence. Not aggressively, mind you, but you won't need to use a turn out to let traffic pass. Harley's are well known for their torque and you will not be disappointed and you'll welcome it when crusing at highway speed in "6th" gear. All the controls are easy to use. The seats for both the rider & passenger are very comfortable especially on those long rides. The forward controls help the riding position as well but may be a stretch for someone under say 5'10". I don't have anything really negative to say about the bike except maybe they could find a better way to protect the front fork lowers. The clear coat gets pitted and then starts to oxidize and looks terrible after a while. Other than that the real shocker was the cost of accessories and what the dealer wanted for servicing. I sold an FX in 1982 and waited until 2010 to do it again. I love it. The Heritage has the best of everything - bags, windshield, foot boards. It's a great short trip cruiser and you can spend the day in the saddle. I really like the low seating - you're in the bike not on it. Show less

When I first saw this bike on the dealer floor, I had to have. It fit me perfectly like an old jacket. The motor is smooth and vibration free. Fuel mileage is great if you ride normally. Spirited acceleration will dent your mileage considerably. The tranny could be smoother during shifting. Gear ratios are very well spaced. The seat is amazingly comfortable. With two up cruising, the ride is smooth and it handles additional weight with no issues. Build quality is very good as is the paint, pin striping and chrome finish. There are no oil leaks and engine oil use is nominal. Show less

I had my 07 Heritage until this last December end of year 09. It is a excellent bike but did get warm sitting in hot traffic. Never did notice 5th gear problem I hear so much about it did change pitch in sound a little but I actually liked that so I knew when I was in 5th? This bike would fly with the rush slip on and ECM race tune and intake kit. Had plenty of power and sounded great. I upgraded to a tour bike the Ultra limited and it is good for the long runs but basically same as the Heritage. Overall comparison to each other is the tour does handle little better but it is heavier. The air shocks help in ride. I like the locking bags and fuel tank. You get six gallons fuel on tour bikes now also to run on. The Heritage is faster off the line but the tour is geared for smooth long runs under heavier loads so I think the Ultra has more torque bottom end. Show less

I bought this bike used with less than 800 miles on it. I've been riding a rigid chopper for the last three years and added this bike for a daily rider. The bike is beautiful, reliable and very smooth. It's a pleasure to ride. I'm very happy with it. Show less

A long-time H-D admirer, I finally found myself in a position to be able to purchase one, after riding Metrics for 35-plus years. Deciding on just THE one took HOURS o looking, listening, talking, reading. I decided the softails had 'the look' I wanted...clean and lean, agressive, stylish but yet ageless... As I studied, I found myself looking at the Deuce more and more. I zeroed in on a 2007, liking the lowered stance, the larger engine, and the extra gear. WOW! What a bike! The torque of the larger motor is astounding, even with two up here in the mountains. The ride is a delight, with little or no change with a passenger. And the looks? Bike enthusiasts and passerby alike, even senior citizens, find themselves staring into the Black Pearl paint and chrome, as if moths drawn to a flame. Not a ride goes by without someone telling me how much they like it. It is everything I could hope for in a motorcycle! Thank you H-D, for building "The Deuce"! What a great bike to get for a first Harley. The ride of this bike is awesome. Runs smooth down the road. Gets a lot of attention where ever I go with it. Will never own anything but a Harley the rest of my life. Vivid black and chrome all the way. Looks great! Show less

Recently had a VStar 650 Custom that was a very nice bike in its own way, but not for my true riding need of putting on some big mile days solo or two up. I've put 450 miles on the bike in the last two days and all I can say is wow. It isn't going to win any speed titles, but the way it pulls through the gears to 100mph is pure fun. The weight of this bike is so balanced that it doesn't seem like 700lbs under you. Rock solid at speed, but does run out of corner clearance quickly and scrapes the boards, but doesn't unsettle the turn...just gets your attention! The thing is that you just can't understand how beautiful this bike is until you really look her over. The fit and finish on the bike are excellent...far better than the competition. Love the EFI...just turn it on, wait for the injector light to go out and thumb the starter and ride on. The rumble is something that is imitated but never duplicated. I plan to do future updates with my take on two up and long hauls. This bike is truly fantastic! Show less

I've ridden my bike as much as possible since purchasing it in Jan of 08. This is hands down the best bike I've ever owned. I've ridden since 1962 and have owned a number of bikes. Flat track racing TT Scrambles and street riding. This bike has never let me down starts first time every time. Oil, filters, and gas is about all I've done to her. I kick the tires and light the fires and we ride. I have added a number of accessories and a full stage one. This is one fine scooter.... Show less

One of the best bikes I've ever owned. Great sound, even with stock exhaust. The front tire loses air pressure fast, but that's most likely due to the fact the front wheel is spoked and uses an inner tube. Worth the money, and very, very comfortable! Show less
