This is a great machine. Purchased in March of 2003. Imediatly ordered bags and staintunes. Install them at the same time and it will save you hours of labour(find a 12mm drill bit to install the bags and the directions for the bags could use a digital photo to aide in installing.) Also, when installing the pipes use a alignment tool for routing near the right peg. The fuel injection has a flat spot around 4500 rpm and you may only notice this in traffic. Note the bike has a flat spot with or with out the pipes. My bike once in a blue moon idles down at a stop sign then quits if i don't catch it. Then I restart it and it's like it never happened. The dealer can't find anything wrong. These are not the fastest interceptors but they do everything so well and look and sound faboulous. The fairing has plastic push fastners that are almost impossible to remove with out destroying so I just pull the fairing back to change oil. As for the competition it's lighter than a BMW and the Ducati st-4 (previous bike) it has much better lights, thousands cheaper to service and chain adjustments are a snap. Fuel economy is 38-40 mpg on the highway and don't go to far past 200 miles. The factory seat is fine and you can do stoppies with fresh tires. If i could have one change it would be 120 rear wheel horspower. Good luck and try to wear a VFR out.

I have never changed it. Only recently that I let a friend have some fun on it for a week that the clutch seems fried..(don't lend a friend your bike)..last yr, took it to the track and ran a 12.92 e.t. @105mph..in '94 or so I took it up to 127mph on a cold night.. I'm sure it had more. I just ran out of room.. With a aftermarket clutch, times at the track would improve a great deal. Fitted the rear with a mich 150 70. A little upgrade from the wagon wheel. Looking now for a 4 into 1 exhaust..any assistance would be appreciated..oh and seals for front shocks now starting to leak.

Awesome torque... no need to downshift constantly like my old CBR... makes real world riding much more fun. V4 sound is intoxicating (w/ the right pipe). no more idle (pseudo-choke) as the '98-99. the fuel injection makes all-weather and all-altitude riding great (it's like having an auto-re-jet as you climb up out of the canyons). Large tank and confortable ergo's for good range (200-240 miles). Single-sided swing-arm makes for easy chain adjustments and center stand makes chain lube easy. Dash is well laid out w/ daul trip odo's, coolant temp, ambient air temp, fuel gauge and clock (all LCD), w/ analog tach and speedo. A touch on the heavy side, but the '98-01 (RC46) is the last of the "sport bike" VFR... the '02+ are more tour than sport (heavier, longer, etc.) - what a shame to ruin such a perfect bike (the hard bags are a welcomed option on the current model). The bike is "green" as well... meeting *FUTURE* EPA emission requirements! and get's fairly good mileage. Typical Honda quality & design. Solid.

With the slightest touch on the throttle the bike pulls ahead hunting for 140+mph straights and carves into the corners with grace. My ABS has helped me more than once and unlike other bikes I barley notice any fork dive. Very comfortable and agile, I've been on it for over 4 hours straight, less a fuel stop, and was only fatigued by the weight of my helmet. If anyone does a lot of traveling on a bike, toss on the optional hard bags and you've got a replacement for your car!

I bought my '01 vfr 4 weeks ago and I feel like I'm standing on the front of the titanic with my arms stretched screaming I'm king of the world. The power is beyond good, the bikes ride is butter smooth. The only draw back is the titanic scale weight of this marvelous machine (I decided one day that I'd like to see what the bike would look like on it's side). I seriously pulled a hamstring uprighting the beast. All in all, I'm really impressed with the bike and I'm planning to buy another if honda raises displacement value.
