The 1200 Voyager is comparable more to the 1200 Wing, than to the bigger Honda, the 1500. To compare the 1500, would require using the older Voyager 1300, which is a little less in the handling, but with its weight, larger motor, and other goodies, is a better comparison. But the Voyager 1200 lacks an on board compressor that used to be standard with the 1300 Kaw. It does have the fittings, and the air shocks, but no way to adjust the suspension, other than by hand. that's poor for a $10,000 tourer, and more like sport touring with a trunk. SO, to compare the Voyager to a Wing, and a lot less money too, that's exactly my point. You get what you pay for, and that's not saying much with the Voyager.

The voyager has a nice ride and a great deal of power. There's no maintenance on the valves on this bike. I put on 680 miles in one month. The colors are the only thing that changes in the years. It is the poor man's Gold Wing. I like the bike and would recommend the bike to anyone that would want a touring bike. It is too bad this bike is not highly advertised. It's a lot of bike for the price.

I bought a new 1999 Voyager 12 and have ridden it for 15000 miles. I am very pleased with the over-all performance and plan to keep the bike for many years. I live in SE Louisiana, and have ridden the bike to Colorado, the Blueridge Mountains and many trips to the casinos on the Miss. gulf coast. I was initially concerned with the bike's straight-line stability as it tended to wander on some road surfaces -- nothing bad, just irritating when compared to my Honda. A new Metzler rear tire - 50psi air pressure in the rear shocks -- 9 psi in the front and dampening set on 4 cured this problem. The bike is now very stable and is a pleasure to ride. Compare this bike with the other luxury tourers on the market in terms of 0-60 -- 1/4 mile -- horsepower/# -- horsepower -- reliability -- and finally price and nothing is in the Voyager's league. The motorcycling press doesn't like the Voyager because nothings changed in the last 15 years. I say its time to recognize the Voyager for what it is -- namely the best value in motorcycling - head and shoulders above the competition. I have been riding M/C's for 40 years and have owned Harleys,Suzukis, Hondas, Triumphs, Ossas, BSA, and I plan to keep my Voyager parked right beside my Magna.

It also 'feels' like a motorcycle and not like a 2-wheel Civic. I have changed to a Corbin seat to get a more comfortable ride, but otherwise have changed nothing -- it all works just fine as is. The fit and finish are not up to Gold Wing standards, but the difference in price more than compensates for this.
