Both great woods bikes but I think the ktm is more of a race/enduro than kdx enduro.

So far, I have ridden this bike on (lots of single track, desert, Glen Helen, City and Rock Gardens). It handled them all extremely well. The throttle is very smooth for EFI with the JD 6x, otherwise it is lean as heck and a bit too snappy in first 1/4 throttle or so. Once you get the bike re-sprung for your weight, throw a JD tuner on it. You need nothing else than protective gear for the bike and the bling of your choice. One more thing, the clutch is so smooth and easy to pull, it is amazing!!!

I love my KTM, it has handled with ease every hill, jump and trail I drove on. It has plenty of power and control. It lugs in 3rd just fine if need be. I'm very happy and already considering a 2nd KTM 150SX so I can have another toy.

It's the best of both worlds. I grew up on 4-strokes and this can be ridden like one or gas it and scoot like a 125MX. Maintenance is pretty simple and easy. The bike is so light, I can pick up the rear end and move it over rocks/small logs while I'm on... read more

I am more of a two-stroke kind of guy, but this bike will run just like one, and almost as fast as a CR 500. It is the best four-stroke I have ever ridden and handles amazingly. We geared it down to run like a two-stroke and I think it helped it a lot in corners and on hills. I have never been not able to make it up a single hill with it. In the right hands it will go anywhere. KTM makes very high quality products and I am very happy and I would never buy any other new bike other than a KTM.

I switched from a 2 stroke motocross to the 450 EXC with no regrets! It is and feels heavier than my 2 stroke but more than makes up for it in rideability. It did take some getting used to the added weight. The engine has a wide usuable power curve that chugs right along when you should have normally down-shifted. The hydraulic clutch and magic button(electric start) round out this awesome machine. My personal advice, buy the bike for the type of riding you do. don't buy this bike for motocross or a motocross for woods riding. Been there and done that. This bike is heavier than a motocross and doesn't have the necessary suspension adjustments for the giant jumps. This bike is a rock-star on close or open trail riding with moderate jumps. Plenty of power and with the 6 speed trans allows for much easier low speed technical trails and hill climbing.

Thought I'd write something for those considering KTM 300. I am an expert level rider with 30 years riding experience. Been on a 300 for some time now. Let me first state that I love the bike. It is extremely fast - beats my buddies 4-stroke 525 in drag race. It is light and very agile. That said, this is not a bike for a beginner - nor someone who wants an easy ride. The bike begs to be run hard, and is more racer than cruiser. The bike deflects off rocks/roots more than absorbs. Rider must stay on top of it. When racing, this bike has the capability to give you that extra 5% of speed to be faster, but you definitely work for it. For those of you who are advanced riders - suspension is adequate. Forks tend to be a little stiff to initiate movement even at lowest setting. Rear spring sags and increased spring adjustment to reduce sag results in limiting full travel well even at reduced comp. Stock seat should be renamed Rock Seat- brutal. Fuel range about 60 to 85 miles depending. Maintenance has been fair. Seems to chew through piston and rings quicker than other 2stokes I've had - but greatly related to performance. It will overheat / boil radiators. If you buy or own this bike, be very careful to get the air filter fully seated. It's tricky and when not placed leaves a gap in back difficult to see, but tragic to engine. (trust me on this). On the fun side, did I mention it is fast? Wheelies are instant with a twist. I'm running FMF pipe with TC2 silencer and it's reasonably quiet. Its a great stand-up bike - I ride it mostly standing. It turns quite sharp, so navigating tight switchbacks is good. It will bog extremely low and pull out - making power to ground and climbing great. Balance, steering are excellent. Build quality is KTM top notch. Brakes are best in class. I've ridden about all other top end bikes and still get a smile when getting back on this one.

This is a tall bike. If I was any shorter it would be really scary. The bike will do over 100 mph in stock form down the highway. The bike is jetted lean in stock form. Now that I'm used to the power, I want more. It's definitely not necessary, but I'm getting the JD jet kit, a FMF 4.1 exhaust system and an 11.9 compression piston. I've also tried running C14 114 octane VP racing fuel with different mix ratios. That fuel makes the bike really come alive and feel light.

With such smooth power it's a true woods weapon (Hesperia to Big Bear loop). It loves to really open up and rev to the moon (California cities). I have put 25 hours in the dirt in 2 months. I can't stay off of it. The best part is I can ride it every day because it's a true dual-sport especially since the CHP is pulling plates from converted dirt bikes. I love leading the pack of heavily modified 450 MX bikes flat out in the desert and using my turn signal to tell them where we are going next!
