When I first heard of the new Victory Vision, I went to my local dealer and they had a video. I stood there, mouth gapping open and in awe of what I was seeing on the video. The Vision looked like something from outer space... but the big V-twin reminded me this machine had wheels, not wings. What made me feel bad was that I had just bought a new bike about 4 months prior and really loved my bike. But when I saw the Vision, I was actually seeing my future, and I knew that I had to have it. A few months later, the dealer brought a Vision up to a bike night at a local hot spot and I knew I had to have this bike.
This past March ('08), I was ready to trade my bike for the Vision. I took a street version out for a test ride and was even more thrilled by the way it handled! I bought the Victory Vision Comfort Tour package in Super Steel finish.
The fit and finish of the Vision is superb. The lines are clean and flow like water. I've had several people tell me it looks like an ocean wave. The instrument panel is well designed and is much easier to see because it sits just below your line of site as you look out at the road instead of having to look down at your gas tank. The fixed fairing up front is really unnoticeable to the rider, but it does a great job of channeling the air away. The headlights cut through the night like a laser, especially the HID lamp; you can land aircraft with that light! The tail and trunk lights are equally impressive, adding to the safety in both day and night settings. One of the little things that catches a lot of people's attention are the lighted side badges; again, a superb addition that just says quality.
This bike, to me, is the perfect blend of tour and sport. Being a moderately tall rider with long legs, I am very comfortable with the Vision's seat and footboard positions. The foot controls are adjustable for most riders' comfort and both seats (rider and passenger) are heated with 2 heat settings (low and high). The comfort package also includes heated grips and on cold or chilly days in WV, they certainly make a difference. Besides just looking sporty and futuristic, the Vision handles like a sport bike. The bike is extremely well balanced and even though it has a long wheel base, you can lean it and steer it through the tightest curves you can find. Even at slow speeds, the Vision is easily controlled and turns without needing to shift your weight or counter-steer. The 106 cubic inch power plant between your legs will accelerate without hesitation and the 6 speed transmission is very smooth. Again, you'll be very surprised at how agile and quick this bike is. For those cool days, or just cruising on the interstate, the height adjustable windshield is ready to control your headwind at the touch of a switch on your left side controls. The stereo system sounds great with the 4 speakers (2 front and 2 rear) delivering clean, clear sound. The only downside I would say to the stereo system is that the antennae could be a little stronger.
My only criticism at all with the bike would have to be the side saddle bags. For a touring bike, they should have more room than they do, especially given the large integrated fenders that house them. But...with all that being said, the trunk space is generous and on the trips my girlfriend and I have made, we've had no issues with having enough room.
I am totally sold on Victory's quality. I've ridden every bike imaginable and I'm sorry... the run of the mill hum-drum bikes have never been for me. To me, people who have vision see the future and don't sit back resting on 100+ year old tradition... they innovate and create something else. What Victory saw was the future, and you can see it now in their Vision. Ride safe!
