I've ridden bikes for 25 years and have ridden many makes and models from old Nortons to modern Suzuki and Kawasaki sport bikes to BMWs to Ducatis. All of these bikes have there good and bad points, but I have to say that none handle better than the old Triumphs. You never have any doubt about what line you will follow, it will almost read your mind. Vibration is slight but the mirrors remain useable. The exhaust note also reminds you that you're on a bike. Most modern bikes are as quiet as a car, although this is due to the more stringent emission standards that we have today. Plastic is almost non-existent on this bike, it was built to last. Now this bike is no long distance tourer due to the upright seating position, but it will put a simile on your face if your simply commuting to work in the city or out for afternoon ride in the country. Parts are breeze to obtain once you know where to go, actually even easier to obtain than for slightly older Japanese bikes. The Japanese manufacturers build terrific high tech bikes, however they have a tendency to re-invent their model lines every couple of years to remain competitive with each other. The model name may stay the same, but the bike is completely new. They tend to forget about the average person that may be riding one of their models that is a few years old. One last thing I will mention about the Bonneville is that since it is an older, classic bike it draws a lot of attention. Let's hope that the new Bonneville, that is rumored to be released this fall as a 2001 model and look like a 1968 Bonneville, is able to re-capture some of this lost magic.
