My dad got me a DS80 five years ago and it still runs like new. It's fast for a little 80. It's good for trail riding and beginners learning the clutch. If you are thinking of racing a DS80 it's a bad idea. I would reccomend this to anybody.

My first bike and I'm sure I'll have it for a while! It has awesome performance, and is very fast for an 80.

We bought this bike used from my Uncle with 2 kids that hardly rode it. I think I Know why. It's a little scary 'till you get used to it. It has a manual clutch that you have to learn to operate. You have to learn to give it a lot of gas to get it started rolling, and when you hit the power band on that 2 stroke engine you are moving! My son is 7 yrs old and it can be a lot to think about when you are learning to ride your first bike. When he rides around the yard, 1st and 2nd gear is all you need. He's always stalling it because he's afraid to keep it revved up in the power band. He restarts it him self and some times he gets mad, but He loves the bike anyway. It has never given us any problems, or my Uncle's kids, and it starts every time. Bikes sure came a long way since the 70's.

I just bought a 2000 DS80 for my 9 yr/old son, and the only thing that saved me the Saturday I bought it was the sun went down. LOL. Oh, no, "we can keep riding dad, its got lights!" he said at around 830pm. Ok, the bike. <br /> It has a surprising amount of power for a little bike. Now, its kind of difficult to really review it, as my boy can't really give a good review of it yet, thou he likes it more than his 50, and says "is easier to steer, and has allot more power, wow, dad!" I think that translates into, He likes it better. LOL. To be honest the power it good and I can ride it and actually doesn't bottom it and I weigh about 190. It has 5 preload settings on the rear, and with it set on 4 (5 being the stiffest) it actually carries me well, no kidding. He is, and I am for that matter, able to Willie it without any problem, and it pulls pretty hard, even with me on it, from a stop. It will reach a top speed of about 41mph with me on it, and about 45mph with him on it. (I checked with another bike having a speedo). I actually found that it shifted pretty easily, thou he seems to have trouble getting it shift, but he's getting used to the differences. I can't really say much about the handling, because of how much weight I exert on it, but he seems to carve a pretty good line with it, and has said that it "steers better than his 50." The bike is a blast to ride, even for an adult on occasion, and for a youngster, you might never get him off it.
