The Road Star combines comfort, style, power, and handling in one sweet package. The exhaust note is quiet until you twist the throttle and rocket ahead with a throaty rumble. My only concerns are a rattle in the dash and lots of brake dust build-up on the rear wheel. The bike is very low mileage and maybe the pads haven't bedded in yet. It still is the best bike I've owned in my 33 years of riding.

As far as resale value who would ever sell thier Road Star??? The road Star rumbles ! I live in Rapid City only 20 mins from Sturgis South Dakota (Home of one of the biggest bike rallys around)being a former Harley owner..I can truely say yamaha has outdone themselves... I love my Road Star, With a few minor add ons it not looks better than a Harley it out preforms them. Bub Stubby exhaust,S&S air cover, lowering kit are a few of the accessorys I have added...The biker image of the past is gone... Grab what you can afford. And will see ya in Sturgis

When making my decision to by my first cuiser I rented a HD FatBoy. It was a nice bike. Then I started to ask HD dealerships what the difference between an American V-twin pushrod engine and a Japanese V-twin pushrod (Road Star). The only difference they would ADMIT to was that the HD would hold its value over time. Yamaha IS a better bike. If your ego can handle not riding a HD and your body would like to ride a bike with less vibration, greater torque and a lot less money out of your bank account, the Road Star is the only choice to make. I am very happy with my decision. HD is the only example where you can pay more and get less quality etc. Leave your ego at home when you shop for a quality motorcycle.

i recently replaced my suzuki intruder 1500 with a 2001 yamaha road star and i have to say the quality is much greater than my suzuki. the suzuki bags and light bar were of poor quality. the shifting made it easy to occasionally miss a gear. the intruder was reliable but not close to the eye appeal or the total package that yamaha has put together. my dealer put an ignition advance kit in, micron pipes, carbs re-jetted, a corbin touring seat with backrests, light bar, and many other extras. i am not past the break-in period but i can say this machine is a screamer. the micron pipes are a little too loud but i just have to keep it quiet in town. what a nice ride!!!!
