I purchased my 2001 vstar 650 custom in June of 2001. Realy love the bike, beautiful styling for a 650, i only have 2 complaint's for this bike 1)front brake sqeeling 2)gear ratio too close.if it had a better gear ratio i wouldn't be changing for a bigger bike this coming fall. best bike i ever owned so far....

I purchased my 2001 V-Star 650 Custom in June, 2001. I'm fairly new to street riding, but I can say without a doubt that if I had it to do over again, I would buy exactly the same bike without hesitation! It is a sheer joy to ride and just so so easy. The bike warms up in no time, is very comfortable for normal travel, shifts like butter, really gets up and goes for a little 650 that weighs around 500 pounds and looks truly larger than it is. I've run into three Harley riders around town that were literally wide eyed with disbelief when I told them I paid less than $6,000 for it. They all virtually admitted it was a better bike for the money than a Harley. If you're a new rider, I would recommend it 10 times over. If you are experienced or do a lot of freeway riding, I'd probably recommend the V-Star 1100. The 650 really scoots and even at highway speeds (around 80 for me), it still has plenty left. It just won't really jump quickly to the higher speeds from there. However, for a cruiser it gets up to 80 surprisingly quickly! To summarize, I love it!!

I have owned one since 1999 and put on 47,000 km on so far . Change the oil, change the tires, and change the heels on my cowboy boots. I also did a custom paint job and air brush on the tank, put on a pair of cobra's 50/50's and ride ride ride. I can't think of another bike it it's class . Happy safe r...

This bike is the best bang for the buck on the market. I would recommend this bike to anyone who has Harley dreams buy not the Harley budget. It handles great, has plenty of power, and looks great....

This Yamaha V Star 650 came from the showroom floor with Cobra Drag pipes and a Jet kit. The sound and performance are great. I am 6'5" and 240lb and it has no problem pulling me anywhere. Even two up with my 115lb wife doesn't seem to affect it. I have heard it is considered underpowered, but the pipes and jet kit have solved that problem. The range of the bike is about 160mi before hitting reserve and the front seat is fairly comfortable. Rear pillion seat is terrible. Although this is my wife's bike, I was fortunate to put over 500 miles on it before she even got her endorsement. I have enjoyed every mile. Can't beat the value for the dollar with this bike and the styling is fantastic. Get one if you can find one!
