I bought my 1100 Custom new in 2001. I have ridden bikes for 30 years and I always dreamed of owning an H-D Soft Tail. In fact, I ordered one. But before the 12 month wait was up, I walked into a Yamaha Dealer and saw this beauty sitting on the showroom floor. After looking the bike over I decided it was the sharpest looking stock bike I had ever seen. The kicker was that I could get this bike for less than half of what I was paying for the Soft Tail I ordered! I read reviews, talked to people, and thought long and hard. I finally told the H-D dealer to keep the Soft Tail. That may have been the best decision I've ever made as far as purchasing a bike. Many times I've been told, "Hey, nice Harley." To which I quickly reply, "Thanks, but it's not a Harley." I've come out of stores before and found groups of people admiring my bike. That says a lot and pushes the cool points for this bike way up the scale. I've added a sissy bar and Cobra drag slip-ons (with removable baffles, heh, heh). I am so happy with everything about this bike, I'm thinking about selling it and buying a new one just like it. Except, this time I think I'll go with the "Raven" blacked-out version.

Purchase the V Star 1100 in September of 2001, was able to put on 1800 miles before Wisconsin Winter set in. Had it back on the road by the Middle of April 02. My Son has a 2001 Harley Road King and wanted to RIDE! We planed a trip to Malta Montana, approximately 1200 Miles from Mil. The ride was so enjoyable, we continued on to Glacier Nat'l Park, Seattle WA, down to Mt. ST. Helen's Nat'l Monument, back east to the Grand Tetons, up through Yellowstone Nat'l Park, up and over Bare Tooth Pass (10977 Ft Elv.), back to Malta MT, then back to Milwaukee. 5450 miles total. I am 55' tall with 31 arm inseam measurements, the V Star 1100 fit me to a "T. Added engine guards and highway pegs; they really came in handy. Picked up a palm rest for the throttle which added in holding my hands it continuously. The shortest day trip was 430 miles, the longest was 840. The 840 was tough on me not the Yamaha V Star 1100, My best gas mileage was going over Bare Tooth Pass, 55 MPG and the worst was during the 840 day, heading into strong head winds in South Dakota, 26 MPG. Yes my butt got sore but not that it became unbearable, Yes I hear that clicking noise but not at 65 and over. Had the V Star 1100 running at the speed limits in Minnesota, North Dakota, Washington, (70) Montana, South Dakota, Wyoming, (75) and greater when passing, Purrs! As of now, the best bike I owned.

bought an 01 V Star instead of an HD Superglide. The V Star handles better than the HD. It starts up real quick from a cold start. Power is equal to 80ci. I have no regrets, plus I have a lot of money left over for all my add-ons. Vibration is minimal at low end, high end it vibrates just like other V twi... read more
