Well, to tell the truth the WR450 was not the machine I was expecting it to be when I took it on my first ride. But all that changed the moment I learned of the simple mods one must perform to make the bike perform, all of which were free and simple. Once slightly modded, the WR was a sick beast, climb any hill at your command with its arm wrenching torque, and then suprise some unexpecting 2-smokers by letting the bike rev. If you are a hard-core trail rider and want all the accessories of a trail bike with the power of a race bike, the WR450 is for you. I currently added an FMF ti-4 and a Power Now Intake, and the engine produces more horspower than any of the 250 mx'rs. Yamaha did a good job on this one.

Being a 2-stroke rider all my life,(I'm 26, racing since I was 10), I never dreamed of getting a 4 stroke until the wr450 came out. On numerous occasions in a group ride we were always held up by someone with a wr426 that would not start. As soon as I heard about the electric start i was sceptical but decided to grab one anyway. The first to change was the air box mods, and new handlbars with triple clamps, so as to lower the front. It was lacking in grip exiting a corner. Next was all the road worthy crap and a new set of 739's. Racing the wr450 against a yz426 bored out to a 450 is like taking candy off a baby. Sure the yz gets up down a straight but throw in a few corners and the wr creams it in everytime.

This is a great woods bike! I don't have a desert near by but I bet it do very well there too. In a drag race with a 2stroke 250 its alittle slow ,but when the 2stroke is taped out the WR feels like it will go on forever. It feels some what resticked (thats to be expected)but, with some tinkering I...

This is a great woods bike! I don't have a desert near by but I bet it do very well there too. In a drag race with a 2stroke 250 its alittle slow ,but when the 2stroke is taped out the WR feels like it will go on forever. It feels some what resticked (thats to be expected)but, with some tinkering I thingk it will be a great race bike. The WR450 is a great bike for any kind of rider. The magic button is awsome. If your on a hill side where its hard to kickstart or your in a race where time is the diffrence between 1st and last, the magic button was a great idea. All in all this is a great bike.
