2001 Honda Dirt Bike reviews

Have owned 7 motorcycles and bought the Gold Wing used for long distance touring. Changed out the suspension to a Traxxion Dynamics that made this motorcycle handle and perform so much better. The Gold Wing is the King of Kings touring ride. While it looks like an aircraft carrier it handles like a sport bike to a very center of gravity. Towed a camper with my Gold Wing 8,000 miles in 5 weeks and it performed flawlessly. If well maintained you can get about 300,000 miles on an engine. Bulletproof bike! Show less

Great bike when everything is working. Very fast, corners great. Very good mid-high range power. Comfortable, yet sporty feel. With the right set of tires you can lean very far. Top speed is still TBD, 170 GPS verified and still room for more. Show less

My Honda 2001 Honda GL1800 Gold wing ABS just turned 300,000 km. An absolutely outstanding motorcycle in very aspect. I had to address the unbelievably mediocre stock suspension along with the horribly uncomfortable stock seat.l too. Both were inexpensive solutions that I resolved shortly after I purchased in 2001. With these few changes the 5th generation GW’s are in a class of their own. Show less

This is my first actual dirt bike, it runs great with one kick to start it. it is a great bike to learn on because it has good clutch controllability and not too much hp and torque, it is really fun on trails and it will pull you up pretty much anything (I have yet to find a hill that that thing can't climb up). after around a month of riding I got lower gearing so it has a bit more torque. their are many great cons to this bike. Now for the cons, when I got the bike ( if it were new then most of these wont be mentioned) it was a poorly managed and beat on bike, but despite all of that it still runs great. the rear tire was much well worn and after a half of a year of riding the clutch cable broke (it wasn't too expensive to replace). I have found that I should get a larger bike to ride because going off certain jumps with my heavy self I bottom it out (to be expected) but I have never stalled in lower rpms through corners. through sand, the bike pulls right through, snow is not a problem for it. I totally recommend it for a starter bike or a low hp dirt bike for kids or adults to rip around on, Show less

Best motorcycle ive ever owned. Reliability, comfort, safe, fuel economy, easy to put long days in the saddle on these biikes. Also handles wind lke nothing else ive owned, from BMW, Yamaha, Harley Baggers, even the new Goldwing. These bikes are iconic. Show less

I truly love what you've done with the Trike;I would feel so privileged n honored to have it n be able to ride it in parades and other fundraiser type events! I'm a veteran myself, took an early retirement under Clinton; hind site is 20/20, wish I'd stayed for 30 years! I just got offered 21,500 for my F150 with 85K miles; would 4SURE sale it for an opportunity to buy this Trike! But I'm sure it probably already has A PROUD New Owner by now!? We're very happy with this motorcycle/trike. However, l would advise anyone considering buying a trike to absolutely. Test drive it 1st, & if they won't allow it. Then you should just walk away & continue w/ your search. Show less

I'll probably never sell this bike. It's a solid all-around bike for people who'd rather ride than wrench all the time. PROS: Comfortable 1-up/2-up, easy to work on yourself, cheap to buy/insure, pretty fast, handles very well at speed, extremely reliable and no-maintenance hydraulic valves. CONS: Almost useless rear drum brake, so-so gas mileage (38 mpg. mixed city/hwy.), heavy for a 750cc @ ~500lbs wet, shifter is a bit clunky for a Honda and odd size bias ply tires. If you can find a '91-03 Nighthawk 750 in decent shape, buy it. It'll do just about anything - commute, tour, canyon carve - and won't ask for much in return. I wouldn't recommend it for a first bike because of the weight, but it'd be a perfect first "big" bike. Show less

Just got the 600Fi, terrific bike. I've been riding, off and on, since '74..enduros, 500 and 750 street bikes from the early 80's. Bought a '95 ninja ex500 early this year to try out the sport bike thing, really liked that little guy, thus the upgrade to the 600fi..the real difference, beyond the obvious power difference, is the handling of the 600. The tight turning radius and the way you can really feel the handlebars turn in corners is very, very different from the bikes with the longer (?) wheelbase, or rake, or angle of forks, or whatever the technical term is. you're insane if you buy a 600 sport for your first bike! These are real life racing machines...you are just an inexperienced throttle twist, or panic squeeze on the front brake lever from going down, and going down hard! You will fight the tight steering and you will likely sit too upright. It's unnatural to stick your face right behing the little windshield when you first start riding. Yet, this is a review, ain't it? I adore this bike. I'm stunned by the advances in motorcycles, particularly sport bikes. My new (to me) 2002 600fi reminds me of skiing. I was zipping down the highway last night and it felt like I was riding a dart or an arrow. I was laying on the tank, my knees in the little concaves on the side of the tank, the balls of my feet on the pegs and I could steer the damn thing just by pressing down with my big toe!! Unreal. I have no idea how to set the gizmos for the suspension, or what optimum tire pressure is yet, should be fun to tinker to my style. I fight the stupid thing a little too much on tight city corners, it just does not lean the same way as the ninja, but when I have nailed a few good corners, it was quite thrilling. I have GOT to get a pair of riding pants, there's no doubt I'll dump this thing! Show less

This is just a starter bike, but wow...a little better than I was expecting! I was figuring I'd be stuck at in-town speeds, but no...this bike can hang at 70 miles an hour just fine! I ride this thing all over the place...ok, not a powerful bike, but enough to get me where I'm going. I'm going to upgrade soon, but I'd definitely recommend this bike to anyone looking to learn on a very light and easy to handle bike, or someone who wants a cheap commuter! And for what it is, it's kinda sharp looking as well! Show less
