(2001 CR500R) Hands down the most kick ass exhilarating dirt machine I've been on. (Have not yet ridden the KX500) It leaves my poor 2003 KLX400R choking in it's dust. It handles great, very flick able, when the front wheel is on the ground. The power off the low end is trackable and controllable with a skilled wrist at the throttle, but when the power band starts kicking, beware! There had better be some open space in front of you. It feels more controllable (the power band) than the YZ250s that I've ridden. It's not necessary to rev it to get going. You can almost ride it like a four stroke if you keep your revs down low enough. My only complaint is the vision blurring vibration but I guess that just comes with the territory. It's hard to believe, they aren't making this bike any more. All in all it seems to be a great all purpose machine in the hands of a skilled rider. I will not let any of my friends ride the CR500R though. They can ride my 1975 TT500 or my KLX as long as they don't smash those expensive radiators. To sumo rise: CR500R, you're the greatest. Love it! Love it! Love it!

If you like awesome power with the size of today's 250, this is the bike for you. I am on my second one. It's excellent for hill, and mountain climbing. The rear tires seem to go fast as to be expected....
