I've got a 79 Gold Wing GL1000 It's dressed with fairing, luggage, passengers' arm rest, toe/heal shifter, floor boards. It's all chromed and lights all over. Its center of attention every where we go. It has 71,000 miles and it has never been "worked on". Plugs, tires, battery and converted to...

Its center of attention every where we go. It has 71,000 miles and it has never been "worked on". Plugs, tires, battery and converted to electronic ignition. It starts first time, every time no matter how long it sits. It carries my wife and I and all of our camping gear plus anything we may pick up on the way. At 37/40gpm staying up with the big boys, even at 110mph (I backed off then, the bike had half the throttle and another 6000 rpms and would still pull out from under me) I love my Gold Wing. Much more to say but gotta go

1978 Honda GL1000-78

I must say I am the proud owner of a perfect, well close to perfect 78 GL1000. And you would do very well for yourself if you can find a clean one for $1,200. I paid $1,600 for mine with 36,000 miles on her. She now has 60,000, 3 years later. I was offered $3000 and the guy said he thought I might...

I must say I am the proud owner of a perfect, well close to perfect 78 GL1000. And you would do very well for yourself if you can find a clean one for $1,200. I paid $1,600 for mine with 36,000 miles on her. She now has 60,000, 3 years later. I was offered $3000 and the guy said he thought I might get $4000. She handles very well and is a blast to ride up the coast here on Highway 1. As far as Mpg, she gets from 35 in town to the high 50s out on the road. You will spend more time keeping her clean than you will fixing a broken part. She will cruise all day through the desert heat at 70 and love it. Out on the open road is where she shines but in town is no trouble at all. If you want to save yourself about $10,000 over the cost of a new one go for a clean 78. Mine has the spoked wheels of an earlier Wing instead of the mags and she has no saddlebags or fairing and I like the look. If your not looking to set the world ablaze with your zapping from red light to red light but want a good cruiser with a bit of the old ride of a real motorcycle grab your $1,200 bucks and start looking. See you in Colorado somewhere.

Heavy and slow. There is hand fatigue after a couple of hours of riding at high speeds (over 60), because of four cylinders instead of six. The first gear is too high. You have to rev it quite a lot to get it going. Otherwise, it is quite a pleasure to look at and ride. Mine has 13,000 original...

Heavy and slow. There is hand fatigue after a couple of hours of riding at high speeds (over 60), because of four cylinders instead of six. The first gear is too high. You have to rev it quite a lot to get it going. Otherwise, it is quite a pleasure to look at and ride. Mine has 13,000 original miles and still has a lot of good days ahead on it. You can pack a lot of gear on it (with saddle bags, and travel trunk). Floor boards can be nicely added to the engine guards. When this bike is shined up and in good clean condition, it really is a beautiful sight. It gets a lot of attention. The new ones are nice, but the old ones have everything out there for you to see. If you can find a nice one with low miles for less than $1,500, buy it.
